Composer, songwriter and music producer. Three ways of working, connected by one instinct: to find the sound a story needs.

For more than 30 years, Demitri DARR has been creating music across musical theatre, film and studio production. His work moves from the intimacy of a song to the scale of an orchestral score, bringing composition, arrangement and recording into one continuous creative process. A piano line, a voice, an electric guitar or a choir can each become the starting point for a very different world.

That range matters. Contemporary pop and rock sit alongside dramatic songs, orchestral writing and music conceived for the stage and screen. The work is shaped by the demands of each story: the immediacy of a voice, the tension beneath a scene, or the way a musical theme can carry a character’s journey further than dialogue. The recorded catalogue also includes cinematic pieces such as Invictus and songs such as Love Is All, offering another way into that musical range.

Words that become music.

Some ideas develop over many years. More than twenty-five years ago, an encounter with the poetry of the seventeenth-century Italian writer Ciro di Pers began the musical journey that became Eterno. Its world brings together soprano, choir and orchestra, with the passing of time at its heart. It is a reminder that a few lines on a page can open into something much larger.

Elsewhere, the musical language changes. Paganini Rocks brings violin, electric guitar and symphonic force into a theatrical encounter between a contemporary guitarist and a legend. In Next Gen Rock, music, score and arrangements by DARR meet the book and lyrics of Pamela Phillips Oland. Seventeen original songs carry a story of attraction, heartbreak and the search for love, conceived through the combined languages of rock, theatre and dance.

People at the centre.

Other projects begin with questions of home, identity and belonging. Crossroads follows a family story across generations, Israel and America, with a son discovering the musical inheritance and family his father left behind. Loving takes its inspiration from Richard and Mildred Loving: a personal love story with consequences far beyond one household. Thumbelina reimagines the search for one’s own voice as a contemporary family musical about a young singer, ambition and choice.

These projects each have their own musical and dramatic identity. Their stories, recordings and evolving stage concepts are gathered in DARR Universe, where the full context of the work can be explored.

From the page to the recording.

DARRSONIC Recording Studio is the practical centre of that creative life. Writing, arranging and production happen in conversation: an idea at the keyboard opens into voices, instrumental parts and textures, then is shaped through listening and refinement. The roles of composer, songwriter and producer meet here, in the detail of how a piece is built and how it finally feels.
